Ventilation is essential for plants to grow, when you are growing hydroponically. In a tent or room that is sealed. One of the most important factors to maintaining a good grow room, is the environment in which the plants are grown and ventilation is essential for your plants to flourish. The supply of clean fresh air rich in Co2 into the grow room and the removal of hot stale air from the grow room must be done for you to maintain the required temperatures for the type of plants you are growing. The idea is to create a negative pressure in the grow room, which allows the same amount of air to flow into the room to match the amount that is being extracted out.

If too much air flows into the grow room that exceeds the amount going out, it will probably help to push odours and pollens out of the grow room and into your house. If too much air is extracted and not enough air flows into the room, it will create an air flow directly from your inlet hole, to your outlet hole and some plants may suffer from a lack of clean fresh air around their foliage. SETTING UP A VENTILATION SYSTEM. First you must completely seal the room you have chosen, this will help to eliminate the risk of any pests entering uninvited and also allow you to control the temperatures inside much easier. You must create an inlet and an outlet hole, that are on opposite corners of the room and of course the inlet hole should be fitted at the bottom of the room and the outlet hole at the top.

This allows your extraction system to be mounted as high as possible in your room to ensure all of the heat that is produced is removed efficiently. Once this is done, you can fit a Wall Spigot. Over both the holes with some no nails glue, to easily fit your ducting with some tape or a jubilee clip. Can now be mounted at the highest point of your room and an inline fan connected with the flow of air pointing in the direction you want the air to travel.

Inline fans can be connected directly to carbon filters with Fast/Quick Release Clamps. Or they can be mounted with a piece of ducting in between.

For small confined spaces or grow tents, a Clip Fan. Is perfect, providing an adjustable head for directing the air flow just above your plant canopy. For larger grow rooms Wall & Floor Fans. Can be used, moving much more air amongst your plants and their foliage. You want your plants to move gently in the breeze and not to be blasted by a tornado of air, as this will cause more harm than good. A gentle breeze will help to strengthen stems as plants grow and most importantly it will help to prevent any mould setting in when you are flowering your plants to bear fruits. FAN SPEED CONTROLLER and HOT & COLD THERMO CONTROLLER (optional items in my store). To maintain the temperatures better in the grow room you can connect your fan or fans to a Fan Speed Controller. A single Fan Speed Controller.

With a Thermo Controller will automatically help maintain the temperatures inside the room. You can find these controller in my store under " Timer & Controller ".

The size of the fans you will require will greatly depend on the size of the grow room and it can easily be calculated to match the room size with the correct size fans. The grow room will need to be measured in metres, the length, width and height. This will give you a guide to the size of the fans you require, but it is also important to take into account your light or lights as they will certainly add additional heat into the room which will need to be removed quickly. Adding extra to account for each light in the room will help you to maintain the temperatures much easier, so as we say it is better to go slightly higher than required by your measured calculation. Also the carbon filter will reduce the air flow a little from the extract fan, so you might find you need a slightly larger extraction fan, compared to your inlet fan.

Below is an example of a room with two 600w grow lights hung inside. As there are 60 minutes in an hour, 30 divided into 60 equals two minutes.

18.75 x 30 = 562.5m3/h A fan that moves more than 562.5 cubic metres of air per hour would be required for the inlet and outlet hole of this room, but of course with the carbon filter and two lights, the outlet fan and carbon filter would need to exceed this amount to balance the air flow for a negative pressure to exist in the room. Adding about 20% = 675m3/h to the outlet would certainly compensate for the filter and lights and would help to maintain the environment much easier. Therefore a 6 duct fan with 690m3/h air flow listed in the table below will do the job for this size of grow room. All electrical items have fitted with Australian Power Plug and Standard Lighting Socket.
